Why mental health?
At FAIVIASH we knew that simply making premium sustainable clothing was not going to be enough in order to satisfy our values. We wanted to create more of an impact on the society outside of environmental issues. We wanted to solve social issues through the muse of our sustainable garments. Our problem was that how were we going to solve social issues through environmental ways, and our team came up with the idea of reworking second-hand clothes with designs related to social issues and donating the profits to relevant charities and programs that combat those social issues.
Hence the birth of our non-profit subsidiary FAIVIASHCares. We want this to be a long-term project that aims to tackle and raise awareness of multiple current social issues. However, picking our first social issue to tackle was not easy, we at FAIVIASHCares have discussed numerous social issues. We reached an agreement that our first current social issue would be mental health.
We felt that mental health was a very big issue for all of us combined, it’s something that we have struggled with, have seen close family members and friends struggle with and importantly we see that it affects anyone regardless of age, race, or gender. Although discussions around mental health have become more common, it is still something that is brushed under the carpet even in our current generation. To understand our motivations for picking mental health, below are some quick facts:
Mental health plays a part in 10% of the global burden of disease and 30% of non-fatal diseases
1 in 5 of the world’s children and adolescents have a mental health issue
Approximately 330 million people worldwide suffer from depression
